Depth Imaging

In exploration seismic field, we have many methods to identify and explore the hydrocarbons. Initially we use the gravity and magnetic studies to understand the basin and the aerial extension of the basin. This method is very sparse (large grid) to understand the overall basin and it's potentiality for the hydrocarbon exploration. Once we identify the sedimentary basin,  usually we kick start with seismic data acquisition to acquire the data in a more coarse grid. Either with 2D/3D or both.

To map the subsurface, we generally start with time imaging to understand the subsurface both structural and stratigraphic wise. However time imaging doesn't give optimum results due to it's limitations.  There are many factors influence the overall result of the time imaging. So the next phase in the exploration seismic imaging is Depth Imaging.

Depth imaging has many advantages over the time imaging however it got it's limitation. Like it requires more resources (in terms of computation power), better algorithms and finally the financial aspect. Besides all this, depth imaging represents the near perfect subsurface image.

We at Geomage, developed our in house depth imaging methods to improve the overall subsurface image quality. In the upcoming topics, we are going to discuss about  each one of the steps in depth imaging using our g-Platform software.
