Velocity Selector - Kirchhoff PreSTM Engine

Top  Previous  Next

This module is used to create the Velocity storage file.

Module name                Velocity selector - Kirchhoff PreSTM Engine

As we all know that velocity plays a vital role to get the best sub surface image. For the same reason, we need to look above and beyond to get the right velocity information. In g-Platform processing suite, we create the velocity storage file with the user defined velocity ranges with an increment value. While do the picking, the user can scan through the velocities and see what velocities are giving better results. Some places where we observe a 85% velocity works better than the existing velocity file. This can be achieved only looking further.

Note: Velocity selector - Kirchhoff PreSTM Engine doesn't generate any Vista items.

An example workflow to generate the Kirchhoff PreSTM Engine is as follows.

In the above workflow, we are reading the input gathers using "Read seismic traces" module. These are the gathers with all applicable denoise/statics

2nd input we are reading is the velocity. This velocity gather should be the latest one.

In the Input data tab, we need to provide

Storage file name                                        It is must and should provide a name. This is where all the information will be stored.

Input sorted headers(of seismic data)                We sorted the data in CDP/OFFSET sorting order

Vrms model                                                Connect/reference to Vrms model

Input VTI model                                        If we have any VTI model, read the VTI model by using any reading module.

Dimension                                                Select 2D/3D

In the Parameters, the user should define the required parameters accordingly. However we would like to emphasis on two parameters under Advanced and VelFactor sections.

If we expand Advanced and VelFactor, you will observe the following parameters

In Advanced section,

If the Dimension is 3D in the Input data tab, then they should provide the Input data bin grid & velocity data bin grid besides the 3D grid define check box.

If the Dimension is 2D then we should provide the "Output geometry".

Note: Usually we forget this parameter and encounter with an error message.

In VelFactor section,

The user should provide the Min,Max & Step of the VelFactor. By default these values are from 0.8 to 1.2 with a step of 0.1. Based on the user input, the velocities are computed.

Once all the parameters are set, the user can submit the workflow either in standalone mode or distributed mode depending on the size of the volume.
