Import from g-Platform

g-Platform is a companion database application that stores project data centrally. This topic covers importing seismic data held in a g-Platform database into the current g-Space project. Supported seismic files are .gsd, .sgy and .segy.

Purpose

Pull seismic volumes and lines from a shared g-Platform database into g-Space. Import first connects to the database, then lets you select the seismic files to bring into the project. Only seismic file types (.gsd, .sgy, .segy) are imported.

Connecting to g-Platform

Import starts with the Connect to g-Platform database dialog. g-Platform uses a PostgreSQL database, so enter the connection details and press Test to verify the settings before connecting.

Hostname — database server address (default localhost).
Port — PostgreSQL port (default 5432).
Database, User and Password — g-Platform database name and credentials (defaults gplatform / gplatform).
Change files path (Windows-Linux) — optional. Enable it and fill in the Remote path prefix and Local path prefix to translate stored file paths between operating systems.

Press Test to check the connection (a Connection successful message confirms it), then press Connect to open the import dialog. All connection fields must be filled in before connecting.

Step-by-step

Open the Connect to g-Platform database dialog, enter the connection details, press Test, then press Connect.
In the Import data from g-Platform dialog, browse the Available objects list on the left. Use the Search files box to filter by name.
Select one or more files and move them to the Objects to import list on the right with the > button (or >> to move all). Double-clicking a file moves it as well; the < and << buttons move files back.
Files that are missing on disk are shown with a red background and cannot be selected. Files already present in the project are shown greyed out; clear Show existing objects to hide them.
Press OK to import the selected seismic files into the project, or Cancel to abort.

Notes

The Available objects list shows the file name, file size and full path of each database file.
Only seismic files are imported. Existing project files are marked as grey shadow items so you can see what is already loaded without re-importing it.
If the g-Platform files were written on a different operating system, use Change files path (Windows-Linux) on the connection dialog to remap the path prefixes.
