The Satellite imagery downloader wizard fetches a satellite backdrop for the project area and stores it as a GeoTIFF map. The resulting raster can be used as a location-map background in 2D, map and 3D views, helping orient horizons, wells and polygons against real-world geography.
In Data manager right-click Maps (or any Map-capable node) and choose Satellite imagery downloader.
•Polygon — select an existing project polygon to use as the download footprint, or pick User defined to type XY bounds manually.
•Min X / Max X / Min Y / Max Y (m) — bounding box of the request, used when the polygon is set to User defined.
•Zoom level — integer tile zoom. Default 15; higher values give more detail but increase download size.
•Timeout (s) — maximum time the downloader waits for the remote service before aborting. Default 60.
•CRS format — coordinate reference system of the requested extent; used to reproject the result into the project CRS.
The download runs in the background so the main application remains responsive. Progress and any server error are reported in the Output View. On completion the generated GeoTIFF is added to the Maps folder in the Data manager and can be displayed in any view that supports raster backdrops.
