Load raster
The Open raster wizard imports well-log raster images (scanned or digital strip logs) into a well. One image or a whole batch can be loaded at a time: the wizard reads the measured-depth interval of each image from its file name, lists the images in an editable verification table, and displays the selected one in an interactive crop view so the user can clip away headers, borders and margins before the rasters are attached to the well.
Launching the wizard
In Data manager right-click the target well and choose Load raster. This opens the Open raster wizard for that well. For batch loading of rasters described by XML metadata use the Open rasters wizard instead.
Input Parameters
- Select files... and Select folder... — the images to load (PNG, JPG, JPEG, TIF, TIFF, BMP or XPM), chosen one by one or taken from the top level of a folder.
- Depth unit and Filename pattern — how the depths written in the file names are read: the unit they are given in, and either automatic detection or a pattern such as %DepthTop%-%DepthBottom%.
- Verify and adjust depths — the table of selected images. Each row can be marked for import, given corrected MD begin and MD end values and rotated, and carries a Status that reports unreadable, reversed, out-of-range or overlapping depths.
- Crop rectangle — in the preview of the selected image, eight handles (four corners + four edges) let the user trim the image on top, bottom and sides. Drag any handle to resize; drag inside the rectangle to move it as a whole. Every image keeps its own crop and rotation.
Depth referencing
Each image is positioned along the well axis by the depth interval it covers — the MD begin and MD end values shown in the table. They are read from the file name and can be corrected by hand, and they tie the top and bottom of the raster to measured depth so the image lines up with the curves, markers and comments of the well. Load imports every marked row; rows whose depth is missing or runs backwards have to be corrected or unmarked first.
For batch loading of several rasters described by XML metadata (raster filename, UWI, well name, depth ranges and calibration), use the separate Open rasters wizard instead.
