Point sets and cultural / custom shape points are imported from plain delimited text (CSV / TAB / .txt) using the shared column-mapping wizard, where you assign each column to a field and choose the target object type.

Purpose

Load scattered point data - point sets, cultural points or custom shape points - from a text file into the project. The first two columns hold the X and Y coordinates; the remaining columns are loaded as attributes.

Launching the import

In the Data manager, right-click the Points (or cultural data) node and choose the import command, then select the text file.

Step-by-step

1. Right-click the Points node in the Data manager and choose the import-from-text command.
2. Select the delimited text file (CSV / TAB / TXT).
3. In the column-mapping wizard, set the separator, header row and start row, then map columns to X, Y and the attribute fields.
4. Check the parsed preview - fields with the wrong type are highlighted - then confirm to load the points.

Notes

• The same column-mapping wizard is used for well headers, markers, inclinometry and other ASCII imports; only the target object type differs.
• Cultural / custom shape points use the same text layout and are loaded the same way.
