Import mute picking

Mute picking defines the top and bottom mute curves applied to pre-stack gathers. g-Space stores each mute curve in a .corr file, and this topic covers importing those files so that previously picked top or bottom mutes can be reused on a pre-stack dataset.

Purpose

Load top or bottom mute curves for pre-stack gathers from disk. Each imported curve is attached to a gather geometry as its top mute or bottom mute, so it can be reviewed on the gather view and used when the gathers are muted and stacked.

Launching the import

Mute picking import works on a pre-stack (gather) dataset. In the Data manager, right-click a pre-stack seismic geometry and choose Load mute picking. The same action is available as Load mute from the pre-stack gather context, and it requires the geophysical interpretation license.

Step-by-step

  1. Right-click the pre-stack geometry in the Data manager and select Load mute picking.
  2. In the Load mute picking files dialog, set the file filter to Data Files (*.corr) and select one .corr file (or several when loading in bulk).
  3. Under Picking type, choose whether the file holds the Top or Bottom mute. The default is Top.
  4. Press Open to load. The curve is attached to the target geometry as its top or bottom mute; when several files are loaded at once, each is matched to its geometry by the hash encoded in the file name.

Notes

  • Top and bottom mutes are separate curves. Import the top and the bottom .corr files individually, choosing the matching Picking type for each.
  • Mute curves are stored in the time domain of the gathers. The imported curve is interpolated across offsets when displayed and applied.
  • When multiple files are selected, file names must contain the geometry hash written by the export (the _mute_picking_ tag). Files that cannot be matched or read are listed in a "Files were not loaded" message.
  • The action is available only with the geophysical interpretation license.
