Export view image saves the currently displayed 2D, 3D or well-log view as a raster picture - effectively a high-quality screenshot of the view. g-Space can write .png, .jpeg, .bmp, .tif / .tiff and animated .gif files. This topic covers exporting a view; it is an export-only workflow.

Purpose

Produce a print-ready or presentation-ready image of exactly what is drawn in a view, at a chosen scale, size and resolution. The output is a raster image file only - no interpretation data is written.

Launching the export

With the view you want to capture active, open the Export view to file dialog. It shows an export settings panel on the left and a live preview of the result on the right.

Step-by-step

1. Set the output file. Type a path into File name or press the browse button (...) and choose the image format (PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIF, TIFF or GIF) in the file dialog.
2. Choose the Export area: Entire view, Visible (only what is currently on screen) or Custom (enter the horizontal and vertical from / to range).
3. Set the Horizontal scale and Vertical scale for the exported picture; use Refresh scales to reset them to the view's current scale.
4. Under Image settings, set the DPI (output resolution) and, for JPEG, the Image quality (0 = small compressed file, 100 = large near-lossless file).
5. Adjust View settings as needed: Print view name, Print axes titles and White borders. The Image info group reports the resulting pixel and millimetre size.
6. Optionally tick Enable preview and press Preview / Fit to window to check the result before saving.
7. Press OK to render and write the image file.

Parameters

• Scale units - the preview rulers can be shown In pixels, In mm, In cm or In inches.
• Animation settings (GIF format) - only active when the GIF format is chosen; set the Animation speed (ms), the delay between animation frames.
• Image quality applies to the JPEG format only; DPI and scale apply to all raster formats.
• Make default stores the current settings as the default for future exports; Restore default returns to the saved defaults.
