Edit statics
Description
Edit statics lets you clean up a source/receiver static correction surface by removing or softening the corrections inside or outside one or more polygons that you draw or import on the map. It is useful when a statics computation has produced unreliable values in a specific area (for example, over a zone with poor near-surface control, obstructions, or noisy first breaks) and you want to blank out or preserve that area without disturbing the rest of the survey. Instead of a hard cut at the polygon edge, the correction is smoothly tapered to zero over a distance you control, avoiding abrupt static jumps in the edited result.
Input data
Input static
The source and receiver static correction values to be edited, typically produced by an earlier statics computation (for example, a residual or refraction statics run) elsewhere in the project.
Input polygons
One or more polygons drawn or imported on the map that define the area(s) whose static corrections will be cleared or preserved, according to the Clear statics setting. This input must contain at least one polygon for the module to run.
Parameters
Clear statics
Chooses which side of the polygon boundaries has its static corrections removed. "In the polygons" zeroes (and tapers) the statics inside the drawn polygons, leaving everything outside untouched - use this to blank out a zone you know has bad statics. "Outside the polygons" does the opposite: it keeps the statics inside the polygons and zeroes (and tapers) everything outside - use this to keep only a validated area and discard the rest.
Default: "In the polygons".
Taper distance
Distance, in meters, over which the static correction is smoothly ramped down to zero as a point approaches the polygon boundary from the side being cleared, instead of being cut off abruptly. A larger value produces a gentler transition but affects a wider strip around the boundary; a value of zero produces a hard edge with no tapering. Set this to a distance comparable to the local statics variability (for example, a few source or receiver line spacings) to avoid introducing sharp static jumps at the polygon edge.
Default: 500 m. Minimum: 0 m.
Output data
Output static
A new static correction surface identical to the input, except that source and receiver statics inside (or outside) the specified polygons have been zeroed or smoothly tapered as configured. Use this output in place of the original static correction wherever it is applied in the flow.
