Volume blend by polygon
Description
Merges two seismic volumes into a single output using a map-view polygon as the boundary: one volume supplies the data on one side of the polygon, the other volume supplies the rest, with a smooth taper across the boundary so the two datasets blend together without a visible seam. Typical uses include patching a reprocessed area into a larger existing volume, combining two different processing vintages or algorithms, or merging overlapping surveys along an interpreted boundary.
Input data
Input volume 1 (inside polygon)
The volume that dominates the output inside the selected polygon (subject to the taper mode setting).
Input volume 2 (outside polygon)
The volume that dominates the output outside the selected polygon. Must have the same trace and sample dimensions as Input volume 1.
Input polygons
A set of map-view polygons (drawn or imported elsewhere in the project) that this module can choose the blend boundary from. Only one polygon is used at a time, chosen with the Selected polygon parameter.
Parameters
Selected polygon
The polygon (from Input polygons) that defines the blend boundary between the two volumes. The list is populated automatically from the names of the polygons supplied at Input polygons.
Taper distance
The width, in meters, of the smooth transition zone straddling the polygon boundary where both volumes are mixed together. A wider taper gives a more gradual, less visible transition but blurs data further from the true boundary on both sides; a narrower taper keeps the transition close to the polygon edge but risks a more visible seam if the two volumes differ significantly.
Default: 500 m, minimum 0 m. Set to 0 for a hard cutoff at the polygon boundary with no blending.
Taper mode
Controls where the taper zone is centered relative to the polygon boundary. "Middle" centers the transition on the polygon edge itself, tapering equally into both volumes. "Outside" shifts the full transition to the outside of the polygon, keeping Input volume 1 untouched everywhere inside the polygon and blending only in the surrounding area. "Inside" shifts the full transition to the inside of the polygon, keeping Input volume 2 untouched everywhere outside the polygon.
Default: Middle. Choose "Outside" or "Inside" when one of the two volumes must remain completely unmodified within (or outside) the polygon, for example to preserve a trusted reprocessed area exactly as delivered.
